Charges framed by Lahore High Court in fake degree case

LAHORE:June 02, 2010 An election tribunal of the Lahore High Court on Tuesday framed charges in an election petition challenging the BA degree of Malik Riaz, a PML-N MNA from NA 118, Lahore.

The petition was filed by the Evacuee Trust Property Board (ETPB) Chairman Asif Hashmi, also a PPP leader. The petitioner said the respondent MNA possessed a fake degree and was liable to be declared disqualified under Articles 62 and 63 of the Constitution. The tribunal adjourned the hearing to June 7.

Meanwhile, an election tribunal of the LHC on Tuesday sought replies from the Punjab University and the Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education, Lahore, till June 7 on a petition challenging degrees of PPP MPA Yousaf Farooq Ghurki.

Iftikhar Ahmad, a voter from Ghurki’s constituency, PP-159, Lahore, filed a petition contending that the degrees submitted by the respondent in the Election Commission showed that he had done his matriculation in the year 1990, whereas he passed his BA examination in 1992, only two years after the matriculation. The petitioner prayed to the court to declare the respondent MPA disqualified. The News
