DUHS opens new biophysics faculties
KARACHI: The Dow University of Health Sciences (DUHS) has established department of biophysics, research laboratory of biophysics and inter-disciplinary sciences and Dow graduate programme in biophysics.

These new faculties were officially inaugurated on Wednesday and an inauguration ceremony was held at DUHS Arag Auditorium. DUHS syndicate and Panjwani Foundation and Trust Director Nadra Panjwani inaugurated the new facilities.

In her address, Panjwani said that professional research and dedication should be enhanced in Pakistan to make remarkable improvement in the field of biophysics. All the students and researchers might have an opportunity to have access to new and modern reference journals and books.

Research in the country remained neglected until recently, which was failure of the leaders and stakeholders, she regretted. However, the DUHS was imparting standard education and research facilities to the students, she added.

DUHS Vice Chancellor Professor Masood Hameed Khan while addressing the inauguration ceremony said that the DUHS had since its birth established a large number of high standard educational and research institutes in short span of time, especially a modern medical research city at the Ojha campus.

DUHS research department has been providing curricular and research facilities while a Journal of DUHS, which the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council approved has been published since 2006, said Prof Khan.

DUHS faculty members had published 42 and 140 research papers in 2004 and 2008, respectively. As well, five DUHS students have recently presented research papers in an international conference, said Prof Khan, adding that DUHS had 76 students in M Phil programme in basic medical sciences and 20 for Masters in dental surgery.Daily times
