Walk at Pims for diabetes awareness
ISLAMABAD, Nov 15: A walk was arranged on Sunday at Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (Pims) by the Department of Medicine to mark World Diabetes Day with an aim to create awareness among the public about the disease.

The walk, led by medical specialists Prof Jamal Zafar and Prof Nighat Bilal, started from the Quaid-i-Azam Postgraduate Medical College and ended at the mother and child health auditorium. The event was attended by doctors, nurses and the general public.

Addressing the gathering, Prof Jamal Zafar said health education of people was necessary to prevent the disease of diabetes and prevent its complications.

He said young people were acquiring the disease and urged that lifestyle management was vital for prevention.

He said signs and symptoms of diabetes are excessive passing of urine and polyphagia like more appetite, general weakness, weight loss, body aches while disease complications included gangrene of hands or feet, affects on brain, heart and kidneys and blood vessels.—APP
