Allama Iqbal Open University emerges as largest public university
ISLAMABAD (APP) – The Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) has emerged as the largest public university with 665,000 students enrolled from across the country.
Vice Chancellor Dr Muhammad Nazir Sangi told this news agency on Sunday said that AIOU is providing education to a record number of 665,000 students in 1,200 disciplines from Matriculation to PhD. He said all out efforts are being made to make the AIOU as one of the best universities in the world. Leading educational experts would be invited soon to revise the existing syllabus to meet the future challenges, he added. The vice chancellor said a comprehensive programme for training of 30,000 tutors had aalso been evolved under which all the faculty members would be imparted extensive training on various modern teaching techniques being practised in foreign universities of developed countries.
He said that under a phased programme, AIOU has started imparting quality education to the students through videoconferences across the country.
“In addition to books, other printed literature and material, we have also adopted modern technology of video confe-rencing for teaching students of all faculties throughout the country, besides organising international, national and regional workshops and symposia for the exchange of educational experiences and expertise of the various faculties”.
Dr Nazir said during the first phase, AIOU has so far purchased 10 modern video conference sets, which are now being used by experts and leading educationists at all the local big AIOU campuses as well as abroad.Nation
