Agricultural University Peshawar Teachers threaten to boycott classes

PESHAWAR: To press the university administration for acceptance of their demands, the teachers of Institute of Business and Management Sciences, NWFP Agricultural University, Wednesday staged a protest demonstration and threatened to boycott classes if they were not given their rights.

The protesters were demanding service structure, regularisation of service, autonomous status to the institute and allowances and hike in salary like other teachers of the university. Holding banners and placards, the protesters marched through various departments of the university and gathered at the main lawn, where a protest gathering was held.

The speakers alleged that the university administration had started victimising them after they moved court for rights. The employees said they were deprived of 15 per cent ad hoc relief announced by the government despite the fact the administration had informed the inspection team of the Peshawar High Court in writing that the ad hoc relief had been provided to the IBMS teachers. They said the university administration had committed contempt of court by providing wrong information to the honourable court.

The speakers also criticised the alleged harassment of some of the faculty members by the university administration and warned that such steps should be stopped forthwith otherwise they would go on a complete strike. The protesters also condemned the abolishment of BIT Programme and said it was a continuation of the revengeful activities of the varsity.

The speakers declared if the university administration did not accept their genuine demands they would start boycott of one class a day till Eid and after Eid they would start complete strike. THE NEWS
