Admission in the medical and dental collages of Peshawar
Over 10,000 sit medical college entry tests
Peshawar, Aug 25, 2008: More than 10,000 students desirous to get admission in the medical and dental collages of the province taken the entry test in Peshawar, Abbotabad and Bannu on Sunday, official said.

An official of Educational Testing and Evaluation Agency (ETEA), which conducts the test for the medical colleges of the province, said that around 7500 students appeared in the Peshawar, 2400 in Abbotabad and 770 students in Bannu centres to take the test, which was conducted to select candidates for 1072 seats in the medical colleges of the province.

The tests were held in the Colonel Sher Khan Shaheed Stadium Peshawar, Ayub Medical College Peshawar (AMC) Abbotabad and Akram Khan Durrani Medical College Bannu simultaneously.

The officials said that five seats have reserved for the Chitral, Lower Dir and Gadoon and 90 for FATA, seven for northern areas, four for Afghan nationals and 147 were for self finance students of 1072 seats.

Strict security arrangements were made for the entry test and students started to arrive at the venue advance of time announced by ETEA.

The ETEA had announced that the test would start at around 6:00am and students arrived at the venue earlier of the schedule, however, it got delayed for more than two hours and started at around 9:00am.

Most of the students, who had reached the venue two hours advance had to wait for more than four years in the heat as the ETEA could not ensure the time it had announced for the test.

Most of the students taking the test said that they were told to reach the venue in advance of scheduled time, but were made to wait for hours in the hot weather.

Mohammad Aziz from Mardan said that he has reached the venue at around 3:00am and the time for the test on their admission slips was 6:00am and it was to be strictly followed.

He said that the test has yet to start and they are facing lassitude due to longer than usual waiting for resumption of the test.

Another student said that the students had to go through body search, while entering the venue and it was contemptuous to search the students like criminals. He said that it was beyond comprehension to set the time at 6:00am, which is too early as students from far flung areas of the province were participating in the test. Daily Times
