Islamabad Cultural Forum  launched a book Pakistan in search of identity

Islamabad:Nations some time in history accept their mistakes and go ahead, but if they continue repeating mistakes again and again, they cannot change the course of history.

Dr. Mubarak Ali stated this at the launching ceremony of his bookPakistan in search of identity organised by Islamabad Cultural Forum in collaboration with South Asian Policy Analysis Network (SAPANA) at SAFMA Media Centre here on Wednesday.

Dr. Mubarak said,In the last 62 years, the ideology of Pakistan completely failed to keep the country united and it is high time the scholars should sit together and abandon the concepts of Two-Nation Theory or religious identity and correct ourselves in this age of globalisation. Only by this we can continue as a nation.

Dr. Jaffer Ahmad from Karachi University said that Dr Mubarak brought history from closed environment of professional historians who focus on dates, governments, and dynasties and brought it into masses. He said that major part of our history consists of official version.

Professor Ashfaq Saleem Mirza, Director of SAPANA, said that Dr Mubarak steers the reader in a collage affect in his bid to explore identity of this Islamic Republic. He said that according to the author, Muslims to get better share in the life and made full use of identity as contained in the Two-Nation Theory.

Ijaz Shahid, from ICF, said that the forces of destruction are identifiable, but do not know that they are victims of historical process. He said that we should shun any identity that binds us to territorial history.

Dr. Nazir Mahmud, a social scientist, said that Dr. Mubaraks book does not give official version of history, which refers to Mahmud of Gazna as a promoter and protector of Islam whereas this book tells that Mahmud also fought with Muslims of the subcontinent. A review of the book by Mushir Imam was also read on the occasion.
