Pwshawar: Pakhtun Students Federation activists seek release of colleagues

PESHAWAR: The activists of Pakhtun Students Federation (PkSF) Friday staged a protest demonstration and warned some leaders of the Awami National Party to stop interfering in the affairs of their organisation.

The students particularly chanted slogans against Arbab Tahir, the provincial secretary general of the party. They were of the opinion that Arbab had created rift in the student federation and was meddling in its affairs. The protesters demanded of the party leadership to remove Arbab of his office.

It merits a mention here that the provincial re-organisation of the student wing of ANP will take place on February 27. Various groups within the federation have been active to gain the provincial offices of the federation. Three candidates had come up for the office of the provincial president namely Asad Mayar, Majid Khan and Hanif.

The latter and his other companions, like Iftikhar Mayar announced support to Asad Mayar that resulted in a physical clash between the supporters of Asad and Majid, causing injuries to three activists of the federation.

The protesting students alleged that the university administration at the behest of Arbab lodged an FIR against the supporters of Asad and three activists, including Tariq Afghan, Jamal Nasir and Ilyas, were arrested by the police. The students alleged that Arbab was supporting Majid, while majority of PkSF activists were against him. They demanded that their arrested colleagues should be released immediately; the cases against them withdrawn and the party should stop interference in their affairs.
