NUST Business School SeminarIslamabad:The role of media in the situation of militant insurgency is to be a catalyst in the process of conflict resolution through interpersonal mediation, said Prof. Dr Masrur Alam Khan, Head, Department of Mass Communication, NUST, here on Tuesday.
Dr Khan was presenting a paper on ‘Electronic Media and Interpersonal Discourse: Mediation in Crises’ under the aegis of NUST Business School on Tuesday.
NUST Director General/Dean of the Business School Prof. Dr Ashfaque Hasan Khan presided over the session. The seminar focused on the implications of Heavy TV viewing in generating political efficacy through interpersonal discourse. A number of prominent figures from the news media industry and representatives of other universities attended the seminar.
Dr Masrur said that communication plays a critical role in either motivating people or making it possible and this study has confirmed that electronic media cultivates a dire need to use print media among people that took them into a discourse state of affairs in more conducive manner. Television provides national political information, which has impact of awareness about curial political issues and that is primarily used for that function, he added.
Electronic media play a central role in stimulating and enabling local political participation with significant implications for processes of democracy in the country, he added.The news

Students’ Week , Pir Mehr Ali Shah Arid Agriculture University, Rawalpindi,PMAS-AAUR,exhibition, Urdu ‘Musharia,Three-day book fair
Rawalpindi:The Students’ Week at Pir Mehr Ali Shah Arid Agriculture University Rawalpindi (PMAS-AAUR) started here on Tuesday.
Different competitions including software programming, video games, photography, poster, flower arrangement, essay & story writing, sports (Boys & Girls), drama, ‘arfana kalam’, art exhibition, Urdu ‘Musharia’ and three-day book fair as well as inter-university level ‘Qira’at & ‘Na’at’ competitions, bilingual declamation & solo performance and video making will be held during students’ week.
Professor Dr. Khalid Mahmood Khan, Vice Chancellor PMAS-AAUR, inaugurated the Students’ Week and said that the active participation and involvement of the students in different extra-curricular activities is a dire need of the day and essential for inculcating in them the sense of responsibility, discipline, obedience and punctuality, adding that students, by involving themselves in such activities, ameliorate their skills and also expose them-selves to an opportunity of interaction with each other in a more affable manner.
The Arid Agriculture University administration tries its level best to involve its students in extra-curricular activities and provide maximum facilities at its disposal to achieve the above objectives, he added.
The first day of the event commenced with Software Programming Competition, in which 12 students participated from different departments of the university. The purpose of the competition was to improve the programming skills, logical thinking and presenting skills of the students. The judge of the competition was Farruk Waseem. According to the judgment as per criterion, Shahzad Zafer was declared first, second position was won by Yusra Malik and Saif-ur-Rehamn stood third.
In poster competition eleven students participated and the theme was ‘Ao Mil Ker Khushian Bantien’. Saeeda Altaf was the judge of the competition. In the competition Syed Rashid Mahmood (Student of Agriculture Faculty) stood first while Fahad Mubashir (Student of Sciences Faculty) and Fakhira Nazir got second and third positions respectively.
Prof. Dr. Khalid Mahmood Khan Vice Chancellor, PMAS-AAUR, also inaugurated three-day (April 6 to
book fair in university campus and said that such fairs have great significance, as in this age of computer, habit of book reading was dying fast. Due to the internet non-availability and high prices of books, such book fairs should be made regular feature at every educational institution, he said. The basic purpose of the fair is not only to provide an opportunity to students and teachers to buy books of their interest at one place, but also to promote the book reading habit, he added.
The book fair is organised by the PMAS-AAUR library and more than 25 well-known national booksellers are exhibiting their publications and around 30,000 books are being displayed in the fair.
‘Mehfal-e-Musharia’ was also held at University Auditorium, in which 15 students from different departments participated and presented their poetry. They expressed their views in the form of poetry in a beautiful manner. In poem category Hafsa, Kanwal Abid and Sidra Bibi while in Ghazal category Mohsin Raza, Nabeela Ameen and Imran Raza got first, second and third positions, respectively. The theme of the Poem & Ghazal was ‘Jazba’ and ‘Jagti Ankhoon Ky Khuch Khawb Hoa Kerty Hien.’ The ‘Musharia’ was largely attended by the faculty members and students of the university.The news
