Chinese Mid-Autumn Festival Celebrated at NUML
Islamabad : 20 September : Pakistani students, faculty members, staff and representatives of different social groups on Thursday joined their Chinese brothers in Pakistan for ‘Zhong Qiu Jie’ also known as the Mid-Autumn Festival, celebrated at the National University of Modern Languages (NUML).
The festival was arranged by the Confucius Institute Islamabad (CII) and the NUML in collaboration with the Embassy of the Peoples’ Republic of China here on Thursday.
NUML Rector Major General (r) Masood Hasan and Chinese Embassy Cultural Counselor Zhang Yinbao were the chief guests on the occasion. Students, faculty members of the Chinese Department and CII the NUML, and other academic institutions including the National University of Science and Technology (NUST), the City School, the Roots International and Roots School System DHA2 attended the festival.
The NUML rector said, “The purpose of today’s celebrations is to express our solidarity with all Chinese nationals who are serving Pakistan in different capacities and convey them that they should not feel alone as Pakistan is their home and they are our family.”
The symbol of the festival – the bright full moon – is analogous to our exemplary relations that are higher than the Himalayas and deeper than the oceans,” he added.
Earlier, students from the Roots School System DHA-2 dressed in scarlet red traditional attires presented the Chinese traditional dances having the fusion of umbrella dance, fan dance, ribbon dance and dragon dance and presented the richness of Chinese culture and mythology as well as message of peace, love and harmony.
A CCI Chinese teacher entertained the audience with his Chinese song ‘the waving national flag’.
The faculty members of the Chinese Department recited a poem titled ‘when will the moon be full’ and Chinese Department Head Xinghan and Nayyar Nawaz presented a duo Chinese song while a Chinese student rendered a beautiful solo performance on guitar and sang Chinese songs. A beautiful performance by City School students made the audience stand up and sing Pakistani national songs. The festival is celebrated on the 15th day of the eighth month in the Chinese calendar. It is one of the traditional festivals in China. It is time for family members and loved ones to congregate and enjoy the full moon which is an auspicious symbol of abundance, harmony and luck.
