Medical allowance to employees of Gomal University PAC refers matter to Law Reforms Committee

PESHAWAR: Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of the NWFP Assembly Wednesday referred provision of medical allowance to the employees of Gomal University over and above rates to the Law Reforms Committee for permanent settlement of the case. The PAC meeting was held here with Speaker NWFP Assembly Karamatullah Khan in the chair. The PAC reviewed audit objections over Higher Education, Elementary and Secondary Education NWFP for the year 2004-05 and took various decisions. The Audit officials observed that in 2001-02, Rs.2.83 million was paid extra payment to the employees of the Gomal varsity under medical allowance head. However, the officials of Higher Education contended that rules of business of the universities have been framed under the provincial assembly act. The Audit officials held the same in contravention to the general financial rules. The PAC referred the matter of non receipt of Rs.1.913 million from the contractor under tender form fee and Stamp Duty for thorough scrutiny to the sub committee headed by MPA Abdul Akbar Khan and comprising MPAs Saqibullah Khan Chamkani and Zameen Khan. The committee also ordered probe into expenditures of Rs.1.26 million incurred on construction of eight quarters in Government College of Physical Education in Karak by a joint team of Audit and Finance and directed for submission of the report in two weeks time. The PAC also referred the matter of appointment and promotions of teachers in Laachi tehsil of District Kohat to sub committee for thorough probe. The Chairman PAC Karamatullah Khan urged the officials of the government department to streamline working of their internal audits for rectifying the faults if any. Frontier post
