AIOU to Launch Special Foreign Language Programmes
ISLAMABAD:July 11: The Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) will soon launch special programmes in foreign languages such as Chinese, German and Arabic. The university is already successfully running French online programmes which have benefited thousands of students. Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Shahid Siddiqui said that an international department would be set up at the university’s main campus for running the foreign language programmes. He made the announcement at the concluding session of a two-week summer camp which was arranged for junior and senior level school children. He said that a separate Chinese language centre would also be set up soon to promote the language through certificate-level courses. The language courses would be launched in collaboration with the Open University of China. The summer camp was arranged by the French Online Department of the university. It was held for the first time enabling the students to understand and speak the foreign language. About 18 students who participated in the workshop also gave performances in French language in the concluding session. The vice chancellor also distributed certificates among the successful students. He appreciated French Language Department Head Farah Naz Sheikh for her dedicated efforts in promoting French language and developing language skills among the children in a short time.Daily Times.
