A seminar on “Breast Cancer Awareness” was organized in the Saleem Campus of The University of Faisalabad with the joint venture of Pink Ribbon Campaign against Breast Cancer and Rotary Club Faisalabad. The session was formally inaugurated by Prof Dr Riaz ul Haq Tariq , Rector of the University. Dr Riaz ul Haq Tariq in his address highlighted the importance and purpose of the event.

In her welcome address, Ms Zahida Maqbool, Deputy Registrar, The University of Faisalabad briefed about the alarming situation caused by breast cancer amongst Pakistani Women. She told that more than 90,000 women suffering from this disease are reported in Pakistan every year, out of which 40,000 women die every year. The rate of death due to breast cancer in Pakistan is almost three times higher than that of India.

Mubashar Saddiq Butt, Chartered President, Rotary Club, Faisalabad, briefed about the welfare services rendered by Rotary club in health sector.

Later, Umar Aftab, National Coordinator, Pink Ribbon Campaign and Dr Rafshan Sadiq, Oncologist, PINUM, Faisalabad gave presentations about the causes and preventive measures against breast cancer. The speakers briefed the audience about the number of breast cancer patients in Pakistan is the highest in Asia. Its main causes are just ignorance, excessive use of the fats, lack of exercise and overweight. Speakers also told that by adopting preventive measures, timely diagnosing and proper treatment survival chances of the patient are more than 90 %. The experts prescribed to have regular checkup (Mammogram test) particularly for the women of about 40 years old.

In the second session, Dr Sadia Hameed, Head Department of Pathology, University Medical & Dental College, Faisalabad expressed her views about the main causes of breast cancer and suggested the preventive measure against it.

In the end, Prof Dr Riaz ul Haq Tariq, Rector, TUF, presented University memento to the guest speakers.
