Harbouring assaulter of student: Police initiate legal action to book Mufti Kifayatullah
MANSEHRA:16 January: Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) district head Mufti Kifayatullah has been bearing the brunt for backing the alleged assaulter of a seminary student as first the party suspended him as district chief and now the police have launched legal proceedings to book him in the same case.

The joint investigation team, which was constituted in the seminary student’s sexual assault case by Deputy Inspector General of Police, Hazara range, Mazharul Haq Kakakhel, has summoned Mufti Kifayatullah to appear before it today.

According to charges, Mufti Kifayatullah backed and provided shelter to a cleric, who allegedly sexually assaulted a student of his seminary in Parhana area of the district last month.

Three other accused in the same case were arrested by police just after the registration of a case on December 25 but the main accused, Qari Shamsuddin, according to police was provided shelter by Mufti Kifayatullah and later handed him over to the police.

“The accused during an interrogation revealed that Mufti Kifayatullah and his brother Abdul Malik kept him in their protection from December 27 to 29 to escape his arrest,” said the notice. The JIT also warned Mufti Kifayatullah through the notice to ensure his appearance before it (JIT), being led by district police officer Mansehra Sadiq Baloch to defend allegations levelled against him, otherwise, legal proceedings would be initiated against him under relevant sections of law. The provincial executive committee of JUI-F in its meeting held in Peshawar on Tuesday also suspended Mufti Kifayatullah as district head of the party and constituted a three-member committee being led by its provincial general secretary Maulana Attaul Haq to probe his backing of assaulter, who was a seminary teacher. The news.
