Lahore 37th death anniversary Nasir Kazmi passes unnoticed

LAHORE: The 37th death anniversary of noted Urdu poet Nasir Kazmi passed without any fanfare on Monday, as no commemorative ceremony was organised anywhere in the city.

Considered one of the great poets of his era, Nasir is especially known for his sonnets and romantic poems. He is also known for translating English poetry.

Remembering the poet, noted writer Asgher Nadeem Syed said Nasir was not only a sensitive poet but was very politically aware. He said that in Nasir’s poetry, the features of the political and cultural life of Pakistan were quite prominent. He said that many incidents of the country, including the formation of Bangladesh, were aptly hinted at in the poems. Nasir Kazmi wrote books of poetry, prose and drama. He passed away on March 2, 1972 at the age of 46.
