Aims of Faculty Services Institute of Medical Sciences (Services Hospital Lahore)
Biochemistry, the basis of modern help in learning the students the basic concepts of normal composition and functioning of the body at molecular level.This provide the basis for understanding the deviation from normal, i.e. the disease process.
The teaching modalities for the students include theoretical knowledge in the form of lectures / tutorials and seminars and practical application in the laboratory.The students also learn the basic laboratory skills and self learning is encouraged through problem based learning.
Programme has been finalized to involve the students in basic research and learning the research methodologies from next academic year.
Department of Biochemistry has highly experienced and qualified teaching staff.Four Demonstrators working in the department have recently qualified M.Phil and are involved in teaching to both undergraduate and postgraduate students.
Role In Hospital/ SIMS:
Department of Biochemistry is helping to estabilsh state of the art Clinical Biochemistry laboratory in the emergency block at Services Hospital Lahore.
Recent Research:
Five research projects have recently been completed by the staff of Biochemistry department under supervision of Prof. Dr. M. Zamir Ahmad and research papers have been sent for publication in various Medical Journals.
Other Information:
The department has submitted a research project entitled " Tuberculostearic Acid " a new tool for diagnosis of tuberculosis' to the Higher Education Commission for approval which is likely to bring revolution in diagnosis of tuberculosis.
