Pakhtoon Student Federation demands govt to arrest killers of party leaders, activists

KARACHI: Pakhtoon Student Federation (PSF) President Sher Muhammad Afridi demanded that the government arrest the people involved in the target killings of the party’s leaders and activists.

Addressing a press conference, he said that some terrorist elements want to sabotage the peace in Karachi, the financial hub of the country. He maintained that law enforcement agencies knew who the culprits were. “We are the followers of the non-violent philosophy of Bacha Khan,” he said, adding that his party wants to maintain peace in the city.

The continuation of these target killings may lead to a strong reaction, which could be disastrous for the whole city, he went on to say. Afridi stated that if the flames of revenge went out of control, the situation would become difficult to control. He claimed that on Tuesday, when the Provincial Executive Council Meeting of the Pakhtoon Student Federation was scheduled at the Federal Urdu University of Sciences and Technology, six people riding three bikes opened fired at the party administrators sitting at a local hotel.

He also claimed that the hotel owner and pedestrians hurt in the incident succumbed to their injuries and added that the incidents of Gulistan-e-Jauhar, Alfalah and Federal Urdu University of Sciences and Technology were linked.

Meanwhile, ANP Sindh Assembly member Amanullah Mehsud demanded from the government to set up a special investigative committee to inquire about the ongoing target killings in the city.

He said that the terrorists also attacked students affiliated with ANP and added that the culprits of the May 12, 2007 incident were also behind the recent violent acts. Alleging that the elements wanted to sabotage the peaceful atmosphere of the city, he demanded from the government to form a special task force to control such incidents.

Mehsud said that the upcoming May 12 public gathering would be a landmark for peace in the city.

It is pertinent to mention here that MQM Leader Faisal Sabzwari stated that his party wants to maintain peace in the city at any cost. “We are in contact with our brothers in ANP and other parties so that peace could be maintained in the city,” he said.

He said that Altaf Hussain and Asfandyar Wali discussed the situation of the city and both wanted to maintain peace in the city. “We believe in the policy of mutual co-existence,” he added.
