K-E partners with NED University to plant 6,000 trees
Karachi:15 April:Under the K-Electric’s ‘Plant for Pakistan’ campaign, a tree plantation drive was organised at the NED University recently, said a statement issued by the power utility on Thursday.
During the three-day drive, thousands of students joined and pledged to adopt a tree each. More than 6,000 plants were distributed and 300 saplings were planted at the university by the power utility.
Since the launch of Plant for Pakistan initiative under the K-E’s climate change policy last year, 62,000 trees have been planted. The power utility aims to plant 100,000 saplings by the end of 2017.
A KE spokesperson said, “Over the years, K-E has created various powerful platforms to engage the youth in healthy activities be it sports events, providing professional exposure to students and encouraging students initiatives. “Organising Plant for Pakistan drive at NED is part of the power utility’s efforts to create mass awareness about the significance of a greener environment to ensure that a collective effort is made to preserve the ecological balance.” Dr Ali Hasan Mahmood, controller student affairs of the NED, said: “K-E has been playing the role of a dynamic mentor for engineering students not just in terms of providing resources and guidance but it is also the largest employer of NED graduates.
The recent drive provided students from NED’s Green Society, with a volunteering opportunity as they co-managed the event. It also encouraged them to continue playing their role for a greener environment.”
