Foundation, Quaid-e-Azam varsities win debate contests

Rawalpinid: All Pakistan Inter-University Debate Competitions, organised by the Higher Education Commission, was held at Pir Mehr Ali Shah-Arid Agriculture University Rawalpindi (PMAS-AAUR) here on Thursday. PMAS-AAUR Vice Chancellor (VC) Dr Khalid Mahmood Khan was the chief guest on this occasion. In the English debate contest, Anees Qazi and Umer Khan of Foundation University (FU) got first and second positions respectively while Abdul Naseer of FAST University got third position. The FU team was declared first in English debate contest. In the Urdu debate contest, Faiza Adrees and Rakshanda Jabeen of Quaid-i-Azam University (QAU) got first and second positions respectively, while Haider Miraj of FAST University got third position. The QAU team was declared first in Urdu debate. A large number of university students and faculty members attended the competitions. At the end, the chief guest distributed shields and certificates among the winners. Seminar: Department of Gender Studies, Fatima Jinnah Women University (FJWU) in collaboration with National Volunteer Movement (NVM) organised a two-day seminar on "Role of Youth in Promotion of Volunteerism and National Integration" followed by a training workshop on First Aid. Dr Samina Amin Qadir, dean, Faculty of Social Sciences, FJWU, lauded the role of NVM in voluntarism and national integration. She encouraged the students to make full use of volunteers training. A documentary on volunteer work in earthquake-hit areas was also played on this occasion. Dr Rukhsana Hassan, chairperson, Department of Gender Studies, highlighted the gender related issues in the aftermath of disasters. She also underscored the importance of women's participation in volunteer works. FJWU VC Prof Dr Saeeda Assadullah Khan, International Islamic University Sociology Department's Assistant Prof Akhlaq Ahmed and NVM Director General Asjad Mehmood also spoke on this occasion.
