Sindh varsities, edu boards under the  Sindh Public Accounts Committee knife

KARACHI: The Sindh Public Accounts Committee (PAC) in a meeting chaired by Jam Tamachi Unar on Wednesday said that in the audit report of 2003-04, financial irregularities were found in various state-run universities and education boards in the province.

The PAC found that nine universities and boards of education of Sindh could not produce record of expenditure of Rs 230.610 million to audit for scrutiny. In the BSEK and BIEK, an amount of Rs 1.634 million was paid to employees on the account of house rent allowance whereas they were also allotted official accommodation by the boards. A hostel building of Sindh Board of Technical Education and two residential quarters were in occupation of Bhitai Rangers since July 1994 but the board is paying all utility bills. In the KU, an amount of Rs 78.115 million was paid on account of utility charges, violating rules and regulations. Also, at KU, an amount of Rs 7.340 million was paid as overtime to gardeners, drivers and other staff despite the fact that 300 persons were available. In LUMHS Jamshoro, an expenditure of Rs 4.812 million was incurred on construction of a shopping centre without inviting tenders and fulfilling legal requirements. ppi
