Prison dept computer operators Sindh High Court orders payment of salary within 15 days

KARACHI: A division bench of the Sindh High Court, comprising Justice Gulzar Ahmed and Justice Malik Muhammad Aqil, ordered the payment of salaries to computer operators of the Sindh Prison Department, which have been withheld for the past 12 months, within 15 days.

The petitioners, Abdul Waqar and eight others, submitted through Advocate Mohammad Ali Tak Chippa, that the Home Department had abolished 40 posts of OG Wardens in the Prison Department and created the post of Computer Operators.

They stated that they were appointed on a contract basis in 2007 and the then Sindh Prisons IG had also recommended their regularisation. However, the department has stopped their salaries since July 2007.

Moreover, the counsel said that the monthly salary of computer operators was fixed at Rs 5,850, through a notification issued by the then Sindh Prisons IG, but the respondents had deposited Rs 15,84,000 with the SHC nazir, as they had calculated the salary for 11 months at a rate of Rs 4,000 per month. He prayed the court to direct the respondents to calculate the salaries at Rs 5,850 per month. The bench directed Additional AG Halima Khan to ensure that the salary is calculated at Rs 5,850 per month and paid within 15 days. ppi
