Minister for Higher Education Peshawar said government approved 20 degree colleges in the year 2008-09
PESHAWAR: The NWFP Minister for Higher Education Qazi Muhammad Asad has said provincial government has approved 20 degree colleges in the year 2008-09 out of which seven college would be established in Hazara Division while three girls colleges would be established in District Haripur. This he revealed while addressing annual prize distribution ceremony of Govt: Girls Degree College Haripur on Friday. DC Haripur Shaukat Ali Yousafzai was also present on the occasion while Principal Rehana Rafi highlighted the college co curricular and extra co curricular activities and also presented some problems being faced by college and faculty, while responding to a query the Minister said that government was making all efforts for the resolution of one step promotion to the college teaching staff which was earlier approved by the Prime Minister of Pakistan. He said directives have been given to approach the Federal Government for the provision of necessary funds by adding that provincial government was facing financial crunch at the moment. He regretted that past rulers had not given due attention to the education sector at the present only one and half person of total budget out lay is given to education sector. He said due to this apathy we are legging behind in the global education standard. He said stereotype statement and hallow slogan would not serve the purpose. Therefore, we have to take solid steps and show strong commitment in this direction, he added. The Provincial Minister said that promotion of female education has been given top priority and special emphasis has also given in our education policy and strategy in this regard, that is why three girls degree colleges are going to be established in district Haripur only, while responding to the address of welcome presented by the college principal Prof. Rehana Rafi, the Minister announced to provide contract lecturers on priority basis, construction of college hall and providing one more bus to the college. He also gave away prizes trophies and commendation certificates to the students, teachers and college employees for excellent performance in their respective fields.Frontier Post
