Punjab Public Service Commission (PPSC) chairman's absence delays results, interviews

Lahore: The Punjab Public Service Commission (PPSC)'s examination results and postings have been delayed in the absence of a chairman.

Hundreds of candidates who appeared in written examination and interviews are waiting the results, sources said on Tuesday.

PPSC Chairman Tariq Sultan retired on July 20. Sources said only the chairman could announce the results of the interviews. They said that all the schedules of written examinations for various posts, which were set in August, had been postponed because of the absence of the commission's chairman.

They said about 100,000 applicants were waiting for their exam and interview calls. They said 500 assistant sub-inspector posts had still not been advertised.

According to government statistics, the PPSC chairman is the most competent authority of the commission. The PPSC secretary only looks after the administrative functions of the commission. The PPSC chairman conducts interviews for various posts. The PPSC chairman can also assign any member of the commission to make question papers for competitive examination. He sanctions funds to advertise various departmental posts. He also allots examination centres to various candidates.

A PPSC official said the Punjab government would appoint a chairman for the commission within a week.

The Punjab government spokesman was not available for comment. Daily Times
