AIOU launch degree programmes,PhD- level on Seerat-un- Nabi
Islamabad :18 May: Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) will soon launch degree programmes, Master, M.Phil and PhD- level on ‘Seerat-un- Nabi’(SAW).

Outlines of the courses have already prepared and got approved from the University’s Academic Council, this was announced by the Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Shahid Siddiqui on the advent of Ramzan-ul-Mubarik. The University will arrange competition for writing books on ‘Seerat-un-Nabi’ on annual basis and the best book will be awarded special prize.

The University has recently won five national awards on promotion of ‘Seerat-un-Nabi’ (SAW) through its research-based academic work.It was for first time that that the AIOU was declared the best one among the higher educational institutions on writing research journal and articles by the Federal Ministry of Religious affairs with five awards.

A separate department on Seerat-un-Nabi (PBUH) has been set up to exclusively work on the teaching of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). According to the Chairman, Department of Seerat Studies, Dr. Moinnuddin Hashmi the annual enrollment in this discipline at BA-level has reached around 70,000.

This is the something unprecedented in the history of AIOU. The teaching of seerat-un-Nabi was going on successfully at the Matric and F.A. level. The University has decided to hold third international seerat conference in October next. It has also been planned to publish encyclopedia on Seerat-un-Nabi.

A series of 'Khutbat-e--Islamabad' has also been launched by the Department of Islamic Thoughts, Culture and History, through which special talks areregularly arranged on the contemporary issues in light of Quran and Sunnah.

The future plan to expand the academic work on Seerat-un-Nabdi also includes setting up Seerat Center and a special library. It has also been decided to prepare a short-course on the subject for the University's employees.

Women's role: Women have a pivotal role in national progress and development and therefore, utmost attention should be given for their welfare, said Islamabad Metropolitan Corporation Deputy Mayor Syed Zeeshan Ali.

During the prize distribution ceremony of the Cultural Week and Sports Gala 2017-18 at the Women's Campus of the International Islamic University (IIU), the deputy mayor also called upon universities to act as nurseries for both sportsmen and sportswomen.

He congratulated the IIU administration and faculty and students for organising such healthy activities and said sports were binding force for any nation. The deputy mayor said promotion of sports in educational institutions would provide a bright future for students.

On the occasion, IIU president Prof Ahmed Yousef Al Draiweesh said the success of our cultural week had showed that the university was among the leading international varsities where not only quality education was being provided but also cultural promotion was its salient characteristic.

He also appreciated women students for their enthusiastic participation in various competitions and further wished for their success in future. The IIU president said the most important outcome of the cultural week was that we are united to work together with the zeal for the progress of Pakistan and Muslim Ummah.

"We are thankful to delegates and diplomats of various countries who came in our mega event," he said. The chief guest, IIU president and others awarded cash prizes and shields to the top position holders of various competitions.

The competitions of athletics, skipping race, relay race, javelin throw, shot put, discuss throw, table tennis, lawn tennis, badminton, cricket, basket ball, tug of war, and volleyball were held during the event.The news.
