Historical Background Punjab Institue of Cardiology Lahore
Punjab Institue of Cardiology is a unique 284 bedded tertiary care hospital for treatment of cardiac diseases. It was established in response to the acute deficiency felt for comprehensive care of cardiac patients. Originally named as "CARDIAC CENTRE" its foundation stone was laid by Lt. General Ghulam Jilani Khan (Late), the then Governor of Punjab on 10.11.1984. It was inaugurated by Muhammad Nawaz Sharif, the then Chief Minister of Punjab on 15.10.1988. In patient was commisioned on 5.10.1990. The first open heart surgery was performed on 9.10.1990.

The Punjab Institute of Cardiology, established in 1989, is the first Heart Institute in Punjab province. It aims to provide excellent care for all types of heart diseases.
