Rare Edition of  Kooliyat Meer Tuqee
Lahore: 04 January:This is a rare edition of Kooliyat Meer Tuqee or The Poems of Meer Mohummud Tuqee, one of the greatest poets of Urdu, printed in 1811 by Fort William College, Calcutta. The edition consisting of 1,085 pages is included in a collection of rare books housed in the library of the Anjuman Taraqqi-e-Urdu in Gulshan-i-Iqbal.
According to eminent Urdu scholar Dr Rauf Parekh, Mir Taqi Mir (1723-1810) not only lent credibility to Urdu poetry but also to Urdu language. Another well-known critic Dr Jameel Jalibi says that Mir is the poet who made the Urdu language come out of the royal court and made it stand on the staircases of Delhi’s Jam’e Mosque. In 2010, his bicentennial was commemorated both in India and Pakistan and conferences and seminars were organised at several institutions.Dawn.
