Imamia Students Organisation protests
KARACHI: Despite a government ban on rallies, processions and gatherings, hundreds of men, women and children of the Imamia Students Organisation (ISO) took out a rally on Sunday under the banner of ‘Majlis-e-Wahdat-e-Muslimeen’ to protest against the genocide of Shias across Pakistan.

Amid tight security, the procession marched from the Old Numaish Chowrangi to the Imambargah Ali Raza at the MA Jinnah Road.

The rally included a large number of scholars like Allama Ameen Saeedi, Maulana Hassan Zafar Naqvi and Allama Nasir Abbas Jaffery. The scholars warned of a countrywide protest against the brutalities being committed against Shias all over the country. The demonstrators shouted slogans against imperialist forces and blamed them for the sectarian violence.

They said if the government did not take any action against the culprits involved in targeted killings, the Shia community would besiege the Parliament House and the President’s House.

They also said when militants recently killed a number of Shias in Quetta and directed not to bury the dead according to Islamic rites, human rights activists kept silent and took no stance against this injustice.

They expressed their disappointment with the government that a large number of people had been killed in targeted killings, but the authorities have turned a deaf ear to these incidents. The scholars said the Pakistani government had taken no action against the terrorists who perpetrated genocide against Shias in congregations and places of worship.

It should be noted here that the Sindh government has banned all kinds of rallies and gatherings in the city, but the ISO still managed to hold a protest rally.

Jamshed Town Superintendent of Police Amir Farooqui said, “It was a sensitive issue because it was a religious gathering, and the law and order situation could have been disrupted if we had taken any action against them.”

However, a case would be registered against the rally leaders, he added.Daily times
