Owais assures assistance for Khyber Medical University improvement

PESHAWAR: Governor Owais Ahmed Ghani Wednesday assured assistance to the Khyber Medical University (KMU) management to improve healthcare system and research activities in medical sciences.

Presiding over the third meeting of the university Senate on its campus in Hayatabad, the governor said: Since new dimensions and changes are emerging in this profession, we have to make constant efforts to enable this institution to keep pace with the emerging needs.

Earlier, the governor laid the foundation stone for construction of a permanent campus of the university. Referring to various projects as subsidiary institutions of the university, especially research and development as well as skill development centres, he said efforts were underway to get readily available buildings within the vicinity of the campus for the purpose.

The governor also said the provincial government had already released Rs100 million, while a sum of Rs50 million was in the pipeline to help the university management to meet its accommodation needs. He hoped that it would successfully tackle its needs.

Meanwhile, the meeting approved a vision plan suggested by the university management for its future development, and discussed measures to meet accommodation requirement, both on short- and long-term basis.

The meeting constituted a committee, headed by Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Hafeezullah Khan, to look into the proposal with regard to affiliation. Besides others, Secretary Finance Abdul Samad Khan, Secretary Health Suhail Altaf and a representative of Higher Education Commission attended the meeting.
