In Karachi Jamiat and Pakhtoon Student Groups clash, 20 Arrested

Karachi: Police arrested 20 students for creating a law and order situation after two rival student organisations clashed at New M A Jinnah Road on Saturday.

The clash took place between activists of the Islami Jamiat-e-Taliba (IJT) and Pakhtoon Student Federation (PkSF) that are active in Islamia College and Dawood College of Engineering and Technology (DCET).

Police baton-charged and tear-gassed the students to disperse them. A number of students sustained injuries during the baton charge, though none were serious. Jamshed Town DSP Nawaz Ranjha said that cases have been registered against the arrested students for creating law and order situation.

During the clash, the activists blocked the New M A Jinnah Road and pelted stones on passing vehicles. Following the incident, a heavy contingent of law enforcers arrived and made arrests from the spot. The angry students also hurled stones at law enforcers when they tried to defuse the situation. DSP Ranjha further said that this clash was in retaliation of a clash that took place in Gulshan College on Friday.

Law enforcers have been deputed at Islamia College and DCET to avoid any untoward incident, the officer added. Moreover, according to a handout, the IJT condemned the incident and claimed that six of their workers sustained injuries as they were brutally beaten by the PkSF workers. One of the IJT workers among the injured has also received critical injuries. The IJT demanded the government, as well as, the law enforcement agencies to take action against the rival group.

Tortured body found: The body of Gul Mohammad alias Mohammad Yousuf, 34, was found near a nullah in Allah Wala Town within the limits of Korangi Industrial Area police station. The bullet-riddled body bearing torture marks was taken to JPMC and after completion of legal formalities it was handed over to the family. SHO Abid Tanoli said that the deceased resided in a shantytown in Sector 6-B, Mehran Town and had dispute with his neighbors, Fatima, wife of Shafiq and another named Asif over the construction in the slum from the past one week. The woman had threatened to kill and has been arrested by police while the search for Asif is going on. The officer further said that a local ANP leader claimed that the deceased was a party worker.

Youth commits suicide: the hanged body of a 21-year-old Rafiuddin, son of Shamsuddin was found from the house located in Sector 6-A, Musharraf Colony within the limits of Maripur police station. The body was shifted to Civil Hospital Karachi (CHK) for legal formalities. Police officials said that the deceased arrived in the city a week ago from Punjab and was looking for work. Daily Times
