Arid Agriculture University (AAUR) students seek summer semester restoration

Rawalpindi: The students of Arid Agriculture University (AAUR) under the umbrella of Barani Mutahida Talaba Muhaz staged a protest demonstration against the university administration for abolishing of summer semester system, here at Murree Road, Shamasabad, on Friday.

A large number of students of different groups including Peoples Student Federation (PSF), Jammu and Kashmir Student Organization (JAKSO), Anjuman Behbood-e-Talaba (ABF), Insaaf Student Federation (ISF) and Islami Jamiat Talaba (IJT) participated in this peaceful protest.

Female students also took part in protest and demanded restoration of summer semester system. The students, holding banners and placards inscribed with slogans against the university administration for abolishing summer semester system, marched peacefully on Murree Road.

PSF President, Syed Rizwan Shah, said that the summer semester system remained continued from 1998 to 2000 but the new Vice Chancellor, Dr Khalid Mehmood abolished it. He further said that the university administration should not ruin future of the students and should restore the summer semester system.

IJT Nazim Khurram Tuffail, on this occasion, said that the decision would badly affect the students' future and this would not be tolerated, he added.

Arid Agriculture University Faisalabad and Baha-ud-Din Zakarya University had summer semester system and AAUR also followed AAUF's rules, said Insaaf Student Federation President K Asif, adding that Higher Education Commission should take notice of this irrational decision and restore the summer semester system.

The protestors demanded of Governor Punjab Sulman Taseer, Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif, AAUR VC Dr Khalid Mehmood, and Chairman HEC Dr Atta-ur-Rehman to restore the summer semester system.

The students also warned that a sit-in would be staged outside Parliament House if our demands were not met.  The Nation
