HEC Inter-University Cricket PU, Gomal, Shah Latif, UoM in quarter-finals

Peshawar: Punjab University upset Karachi University by 4 runs and Shah Abdul Latif, Khairpur defeated NED Karachi to move into the quarter-finals of the HEC Inter-University Men Cricket Championship, simultaneously being played at different venues on Thursday. Punjab in the match played at Hostel No. 1 ground defeated Karachi University by only four runs in a hot-fought encounter. Punjab won the toss and elected to bat first by setting up 165 runs with top order Zeeshan hammered 73 runs with seven boundaries, Wahid Gul made 31 runs with two boundaries and Muhammad Usman scored 14 runs. For Karachi University Nabil Khan took four wickets for 21 runs in his seven overs spell, Mohsin Sultan took two for 29 runs in his six overs spell. Ali and Karam took one wicket each. In reply, Karachi University took a good start when opener Jibran struck 54 with five boundaries but the later batsmen failed to click. Telha Bashir (28) and Rizwan Inayat (14) were the other leading scorers. Thus KU bowled out for 161 runs. For PU Rizwan Inayat took four wickets, Waseem took three wickets and Waheed got one wicket. In a match played at Hostel No. 2 ground Shah Abdul Latif beat NED Karachi by eight wickets. NED Karachi while bat first scored 60 runs with only Shoaib made 18 runs, none of the other could cross the double figures. Although it was predicted that NED Karachi would make an easy sailing against Shah Abdul Latif University, Khairpur but things proved otherwise as Shah Abdul Latif bowlers did excellent bowling by giving no time to NED Karachi batsmen to stand for a big score. Right-arm pace Faisal was the pick of the pack as he bowled very well by taking four wickets for just 10 runs, Danish and Riasat took two wickets each.

In reply, SAL Khairpur chased the target by the loss of two wickets in 12 overs with Qasim (19) was the leading scorer. Muhammad Jehanzeb and Muhammad Shafique took three wickets each. UoM, Gomal Varsity enter into q-finals of HEC Inter-University Cricket University of Malakand and Gomal University took berth into the quarter-finals after defeating their respective rivals in the HEC Inter-University Men Cricket Championship being played, simultaneously at two different venues here on Thursday. The match between University of Malakand and IIU, Islamabad at Islamia College ground with Malakand University won the toss and elected to bat first by scoring 133 runs for the loss of six wickets with Mudassir (24), Ijaz (25), Ziaur Rehman (22) were the leading scorers. For IIU, Islamabad Abu Bakar and Muhammad took three wickets each. In reply, Islamic International University, Islamabad bowled out for 91 runs after playing 24.5 overs with Sajid (48) with three boundaries, Farooq (12) were the key scorers.

For University of Malakand Shah Saud took fie wickets and Imran Khan got two wickets. In the match played at Gymkhana ground between Gomal University and UET, Lahore, Gomal beat UET Lahore by 66 runs. Gomal made 122 runs with Muhammad Luqman (23), Rehan Samad (28), Shakeel (18) and Anas Khan (12) were the main scorers. For UET Lahore Atif took two wickets, Mukhtiar, Sajjad, Zafar and Zeeshan took one wicket each. In reply, UET Lahore bowled out for 56 runs after playing 21.3 overs. Usman Malik scored 29 runs, Muhammad Zeeshan (18) was the other leading runs taker. For Gomal University Muhammad Akram took three wickets and Mudasir got two wickets. App
