Govt asked to provide adequate funds to Higher Education Commission

Islamabad:Taking stock of the situation arising out of paucity of funds and consequent problems for the Overseas Pakistani students, the Senate Standing Committee on Labour, Manpower and Overseas Pakistanis, asked the Government on Tuesday to provide adequate funds to the Higher Education Commission (HEC) so that the students could successfully pursue and complete their studies abroad.

The committee instructed the Labour Ministry to take up the matter in collaboration with the Education Ministry and the HEC to address the issue, which is beginning to jeopardize the future of Pakistani students.

The committee met at the Parliament House to consider

review the recommendations formulated earlier in the light of Committees visit to a number of European countries including UK, Italy and Spain where a sizeable number of Pakistanis have settled or residing in the connection with their job assignments but continue to face a host of difficulties including education of their children, sending home remittances, renewal of passports etc, besides lack of availability of PIA flights for any European destinations.
