HEC released first instalment of Rs400 million to University of Karachi
KARACHI:16 July: The Higher Education Commission (HEC) has released the first instalment of Rs400 million to the University of Karachi from the grant of around Rs1.8 billion, which was earlier approved by the Planning Commission, Islamabad, in its meeting held in March, 2018 which was chaired by deputy chairman of the Planning Commission Sartaj Aziz.

The said grant was given for the promotion of academic and research activities at the KU.

Various projects, including upgrade of teaching/research facilities in KU departments, new block for faculty of science and social sciences, 10 new buses for KU students, upgrade of the biotechnology department, new building and state-of-the-art facilities and equipment for the centre for digital forensic science and technology and the visual studies department, a new block of the girls hostel for 200 students, main communication network and gymnasium, are included in the proposal.Published in Dawn, July 16th, 2018.
