Teaching resumes at JPMC’sSchool of Nursing
After a gap of five days following the ‘abduction and rape’ of the nursing student, full teaching sessions were held at the JPMC’s School of Nursing on Monday.

Talking to Dawn, the principal of the school, Azra Hameed, said that students who had gone on protest were now back to their studies that included assignments in various wards of the hospital.

Students of second year and above who had stopped performing duties in wards were asked to resume their duties in the wards, she said, adding that in addition to two weekly teaching courses at the school, students were assigned duties in various wards of the JPMC for six to eight hours. She said that the rape incident had shocked every student of the nursing school.
‘Torture’ on rape suspect

A judicial magistrate on Monday sought a report from the investigation officer on an application concerning alleged torture on a former medico-legal officer who has been booked for raping and trying to kill the trainee nurse.

A relative of the suspect filed an application in court stating that the former MLO was being subjected to torture by the police.

Initially, a case (FIR No.332/2010) was registered against the suspect under Section 324 (attempted murder) of the Pakistan Penal Code at the Saddar police station. Later, in the light of initial medical reports, Section 376 (punishment for rape) of the PPC was incorporated in the FIR. The suspect is in police custody on a physical remand till July 20 (Tuesday).Dawn
