Punjab Youth Dept Shortlists 56,000 Applicants
Lahore: February 04:THE Punjab Youth Affairs Department (PYAD) has shortlisted 56,000 registered applicants, seeking jobs under the Punjab Youth Internship Programme. In the first phase, 19400 unemployed youth of 16 to 30 years of age have started working from February 01, 2014.
It was disclosed at a meeting presided over by Punjab Minister for Education and Youth Affairs Rana Mashhood Ahmed Khan to review the progress in the Punjab Youth Internship (PYI) Programme on Monday.
Under the PYI programme, a six-month internship with a stipend of Rs 12,000 per month is being given to the person who has completed 16 years of education or diploma in technical education after the matriculation in 2011 or afterwards.
The members of the steering committee established for this purpose also participated in the meeting. Punjab Secretary Youth Affairs Muhammad Khan Khichi informed the meeting that in the first phase, 19400 unemployed youth of 16 to 30 years of age, fulfilling the prescribed requirements, have started working from February 01, 2014.
Out of these, 80 percent skilled persons are given internships in private industrial organisations while remaining 20 percent highly qualified unemployed youths have been placed in the government departments. The Youth Placement Bureau established at the PITB Lahore has completed their placement according to the option given by the applicants out of three preferential districts.
Minister Rana Mashhood Ahmad Khan directed the steering committee to organise the orientation seminars in the cities, having clusters of industry like Lahore, Faisalabad, Sialkot, Gujranwala, Multan, Rawalpindi and Bahawalpur in collaboration with the relevant Chambers of Commerce and Industry to promote the awareness in making the Punjab Youth Internship Programme a real success. He also ordered the formulation of special monitoring teams to check at random the attendance as well as performance of the internees and ensure that the female internees will be given placement nearest their homes.

 

He told the meeting that the government will continue to provide opportunity of internship to degree-holders of BS Honours, MA, MSc, MBA, BDS, MBBS, MPhil and graduates of Human Resource Management in a phased manner.
These include diploma holders in recognised trades from Punjab Board of Technical Education (PBTE). Besides TEVTA and training institutions of the Punjab Vocational Training Council (PVTC), the youth, completing diploma from recognised private institutions of technical education, health technicians, agri and veterinary technicians and paramedics, are also eligible.
The minister also ordered allocation of 20 percent quota for southern districts of Punjab out of the total number of internees.The news.
