King Edward Medical University Second convocation
LAHORE: The federal government has devolved the subjects of health and education to the provinces to achieve greater efficiency in these sectors, Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani said on Saturday.

Addressing the students at the second convocation of the King Edward Medical University (KEMU), he said the government was aware of the challenges being faced by the health sector and was committed to providing better healthcare facilities to the people. “Students should always make a difference between optimism and pessimism… an optimist sees an opportunity even in tough circumstances,” he said, adding that fresh graduates should concentrate on serving the masses. “KEMU is a premier institution, renowned across the world for its contribution in the field of medical education,” Gilani said.

Matchless services: Addressing the convocation, KEMU Vice Chancellor Professor Zafarullah Khan said KEMU had a history of producing quality doctors, who had rendered matchless services not only in Pakistan but across the world. He also highlighted the medical facilities that were available at the institution.

Degree scrolls were awarded to 472 MBBS graduates who had passed out in 2008 and 2009. Medals were also distributed among 40 position holders from years 2004 and 2005, along with fresh graduates.

Zunaira Arshad, who received 14 medals in different subjects, was declared the best graduate of 2009 and was honoured with a special Yousaf Raza Gilani Gold Medal. The prime minister also announced a foreign scholarship for Zunaira. Fresh graduates, members of the faculty and people from different media organisations attended the convocation.Daily times
