KP varsities’ teachers observe black day
PESHAWAR:14 December: The Federation of All Pakistan Universities Academic Staff Association (FAPUASA) Thursday observed Black Day in all the public sector universities in the province against the alleged humiliation and victimisation of faculty members at the hands of vice-chancellors.
All the faculty members across the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa wore wearing black arm-bands, displayed banners, held executive bodies meetings and arranged walks in response to the alleged humiliating attitude of the vice-chancellors towards them.

The federation decided to call a general body meeting next week, where all the presidents and general secretaries would be invited to discuss the issues and propose a strategy.

Provincial president of FAPUASA Dr Iqbal Munir urged the provincial government to intervene to resolve all issues of the faculty and to give clear directions to vice-chancellors to run the university affairs without the humiliation of the faculty.

The president asked the vice-chancellors to take faculty into confidence and utilise their potential for the betterment and progress of the universities.The news.

International Students Convention and Expo ends
Islamabad :14 December: First ever International Students Convention and Expo conclude on with impressive participation of international students and Pakistani students across the country.
The two days event was organised by Inter University Consortium for Promotion of Social Sciences Pakistan (IUCPSS) in collaboration with COMSATS, Paigham-e-Pakistan, Punjab Higher Education Commission, Pakistan Institute of Parliamentary Studies, United Nations Information Centre and other top ranked Pakistani universities.
The inauguration ceremony was graced by Wajhia Ikram as guest of honor who spoke along with Executive Director COMATS, Dr S. M Junaid Zaidi, Chairman Punjab HEC Prof Dr. Mohammad Nizamuddin, Parliamentary Secretary for Railways Farrukh Habib, Chairman Inter University Consortium Dr Nasser Ali Khan, Director United Nations Information Centre Vlastimil Samek and Chairman BOG University of Lahore Awais Rauf.
The speakers appreciated the initiative and urged provision of more opportunities for youth in every sphere of life. Interacting with the delegates, Minister of State for Interior stated that Pakistan is land of peace, diversity, rich culture & tolerance. He urged the participants to promote positive image of Pakistan as peaceful country. The Vice Chancellors Forum on Sustainable Development Goals and Role of Universities was inaugurated by President Azad Jammu and Kashmir Sardar Khalid Masood who highlighted effective role of universities in achieving Sustainable Development Goals. The expo is comprised of University Pavilion, books and cultural stalls where the visitors showed keen interest. National University of Technology, CITTC sign MoU
Islamabad :December 14: National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST) in collaboration with Chinese International Technology Transfer Centre (CITTC) is all set to establish China Pakistan Technology Transfer Centre (CPTTC) at NUST.

CITTC is a joint project of Chinese Ministry of Science and Technology and Beijing Municipal Science and technology Commission, that provides a professional international technology transfer platform between China and other countries across the world.

The China Pakistan Technology Transfer Centre (CPTTC) is a result of an MoU signed between NUST and CITTC in Beijing. CPTTC will thus facilitate technology transfer between China and Pakistan, providing soft-landing to companies of both the countries to enter into each other’s’ markets. The centre will act as a bridge and gateway between the industries and innovative resources of both the countries. The centre will be established at National Science and Technology Park (NSTP), a flagship project of NUST set to be inaugurated in January 2019. Speaking at the occasion, Lt Gen Naweed Zaman, Rector NUST termed the establishment of CPTTC as a landmark achievement for CITTC and NUST being the first ever international centre established at any Pakistani University to promote two-way technology transfer between the two friendly nations.The news.

Results of General Science Part-I announced Karachi Board
Karachi:December 14:The Board of Intermediate Education Karachi (BIEK) announced the results of its annual examinations for Part-1 General Science Group on Thursday.
According to a statement released by the board, a total of 2,009 male students and 1,476 female students had registered for the exams. Of these, 1,972 male students appeared for the papers and 30.22 per cent were successful, while 1,457 sat for the exams and 40.84 per cent of them passed. Board officials said the results being issued are provisional.
The statement added that any entry in the results would be corrected if a complaint is submitted. For regular students, the marks certificates of this examination will be issued in their respective institutions within two weeks.The news.

Students display smart devices at GC University exhibition
LAHORE:December 14: From fully automated lathe machine to foot power generation system for public buildings, the final year engineering students from different universities Thursday put on display their self-made smart devices, robots and innovative technologies at the Annual Projects Exhibition (APEX 2018).
The exhibition was organised by the Electrical Engineering Department of Government College University Lahore at the university’s Abdus Salam Hall. About 30 smart devices were put on display which included AI-based home automation device, compressed air energy storage system, fire-fighting robot with wireless control, smart scoreboard for basketball, Google supported traffic management system, autonomous self-balancing military robot, visible light communication system, water quality monitoring system and voice control wheelchair for the physically-challenged.
Speaking on the occasion, Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Hassan Amir Shah said knowledge was nothing without its practical implementation; these students had worked very hard on their projects ranged from automation to power electronics to surveillance. He said the market had become highly competitive, so the university graduates had to be highly innovative and technically sound to survive. The Vice Chancellor also guided the students about the further research on their projects.
GCU Electrical Engineering Department Chairperson Dr Junaid Zafar said APEX 2018 was aimed at providing opportunities to the students to demonstrate their knowledge and technical skills to the companies but also educate and motivate the other students to come up with more innovative ideas and technologies. He said that more than 300 students submitted projects, out of which 30 projects were displayed. Different companies and funding agencies were also invited to APEX 2018 to witness and fund the projects.The news.

Moot on English literature kicks off
LAHORE:14 December: A three-day 1st International Conference on English Literature, Linguistics and Teaching (ICELLT 2018) with the theme “Interaction in English: Cross-cultural awareness and communication” commenced here in Lahore on Thursday.

The renowned scholars and academicians, including Dr Caroline Clements, Dr Cara Cilano, Dr Robert Mckenzie and Dr Patricia Ann Pashby from leading universities of UK and USA are attending the conference here at University of Education, Township Campus. On the first day of the conference, more than 40 research papers were presented.
The UoE Vice-Chancellor Dr Rauf-i-Azam said ICELLT 2018 reflects University of Education’s vision to be an outstanding 21st century university. It is the need of the hour that English as the second language (ESL) researchers embrace inter-disciplinary and inter-genre research methods towards literature, linguistics and teaching to yield constructive outcomes for the community. The underlying purpose of ICELLT 2018 is to provide an opportunity to a diverse group of scholars, practitioners, researchers, to interact, network, and benefit from each other's research and expertise in the age of globalisation and digitalisation in a multi-directional sharing of perspectives, values, priorities, and expertise.

He said the foremost goal of ICELLT 2018 is to encourage greater regional co-operation and the publication of research findings in high quality journals. I staunchly believe that ICELLT 2018 intends to provide high quality platform to English language community and to disseminate research conducted in English literature, linguistics and TESOL to wider audience in general. The knowledge which will be created from the research papers presented in this conference will definitely make substantial contribution towards improvement of English literature, linguistics and teaching in Pakistan, he added. Dr Rauf-i-Azam said in our institution, research is the basis of our strategic vision to become one of the leading universities of the world. This vision demands us enhance and engage our research expertise and work painstakingly for research mobilisation.

Cleanliness: Albayrak Waste Management Company conducted a cleanliness drive at the Shalimar Gardens here on Thursday. The activity was done to encourage conservation of environment at historical places, officials said adding that keeping in view the needs of the gardens Albayrak placed waste bins, urging people not to litter in and around the historical buildings. LAHORE:December 14: The University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS) Lahore in collaboration with National Accountability Bureau organised a walk to create awareness among public especially the young generation against corruption in all segments of society.

Punjab Minister for Livestock & Dairy Development Sardar Hasnain Bahadur Dareshak along with UVAS Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Talat Naseer Pasha led the walk while Prof Dr Aleem Bhatti, Dr Nisar Ahmad, faculty members and students participated.
