Medical college Landhi have 25pc seats for labourers’ children’
Karachi:14 April:Sindh Minister for Labour and Human Resource Ghulam Murtaza Baloch has said announced to establish a medical college in Landhi where 25 per cent of the seats would be reserved for giving free of charge education to wards of labourers.

He stated this on Friday while inaugurating the CT-scan machine at Kuslum Bai Valika Hospital in the SITE area being run by the Sindh Employees Social Security Institution (SESSI).

Baloch said that the machine was a state-of-the-art equipment worth Rs70 million was imported from Japan to provide free of charge health treatment facility to labourers and their families in the entire province.

He said that burns ward, cardiology unit, and intensive care unit would be established in every SESSI-run hospitals, adding that the provincial government had passed 15 laws for safeguarding the rights of labourers and it was a record number of legislation for a noble cause.

The minister said that labourers were backbone of economy of any country and no society could progress without well-being and prosperity of the labour class. The government had embarked upon a policy, which would enable the off-springs of labourers to get all the opportunities of education, socio-economic progress and to choose any profession of their choice instead of becoming labour in the second generation.

He said that the federal government had introduced a number of anti-labour economic policies, which caused inflation and price-hike in essential services and commodities in the market. He said that ill-advised steps of the federal government had also increased joblessness in the country.

Education facilities for labourers’ kids

The Sindh government is trying to provide better education facilities to the wards of labourers so that they are able to become doctors, engineers and government officers, and secure other high profile jobs in the future.

Sindh Minister for Labour and Human Resources Ghulam Murtaza Baloch said this on Saturday while addressing as the chief guest at the annual prize distribution ceremony of the Workers Welfare Board Sindh at the Sheikh Zayed Islamic Research Centre Auditorium, University of Karachi.

The prize distribution ceremony was held to give prizes to position holders of schools being run by the workers welfare board. Workers Welfare Board Secretary Dr Mustafa Suhag, SESSI Commissioner Kashif Gulzar, MNA Agha Rafeeullah, educationists Dr Mazharul Haq and Naeem Ahkund, and members of the board’s governing body were also present on the occasion.

The labour minister distributed cash prizes, awards and certificates among position holder students. The first position holders were given a cash prize of Rs50,000 each, while the second and third position holders were given Rs45,000 and Rs40,000 each respectively.

Students also presented tableaus on the occasion. Addressing the ceremony, Baloch said it was a fact that the children of the labourers were second to none in talent and they just needed better opportunities. He added that the government was trying to provide better education facilities to the children so that they were able to play their due role in the progress of the country.

The minister said that he was pleased to know that the students of schools managed by the Workers Welfare Board Sindh had performed well in board examinations.

"It is another fact that no nation can make progress in any field until and unless it pays heed to the field of education," the labour minister said. He also distributed job offer letters to heirs of deceased employees of the department on the quota for deceased employees’ heirs and announced that on the upcoming Labour Day on May 1, labourers would be allotted houses in the labour colonies constructed across the province.The news.
