Veterinary University Seminar on Molecular cytogenetics
2day national seminar on ‘Molecular cytogenetics -- a powerful selection and diagnostic tool in livestock, equines, pets, fisheries and game animals’
Scientists asked to help small farmers

LAHORE, Nov 11: Veterinarian scientists and professionals should help small farmers, who make 70 per cent of the farming community, increase food production, says Punjab Agriculture Minister Ahmad Ali Aulakh.
The minister was speaking at the inaugural session of a two-day national seminar on ‘Molecular cytogenetics -- a powerful selection and diagnostic tool in livestock, equines, pets, fisheries and game animals’ organised by the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences in collaboration with the Higher Education Commission at UVAS’s Ravi Campus in Pattoki on Wednesday.

Aulakh said the Punjab government was taking initiatives to improve veterinary care services as well as genetic breed and setting up more slaughterhouses across the province. He said the livestock sector had more potential than the agriculture sector and added that the rural economy was dependent on these two sectors. He said no country could pave the way to progress without energy.

UVAS Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Muhammad Nawaz said the hands-on training at the seminar would be useful to bring improvement in the livestock sector leading to its better share in the GDP.

Later, Aulakh inaugurated the exhibition and visited the training and research centre for livestock marketing.

Faculty of Animal Production and Technology Dean Prof Talat Naseer Pasha also spoke.
