Lahore: Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has said that Danish Schools will not only help promote quality education in the backward areas but they will also result in poverty alleviation, ensuring dignity and respect of students.

He stated this while presiding over a meeting held to review the pace of implementation of Danish Schools and Centres of Excellence projects here on Thursday.

The CM said splendid buildings of schools would be meaningless without quality education, dedicated teachers and basic amenities, therefore, academic facilities to be made available in the schools would be better than those available in premier educational institutions of the country.

He said designs should be prepared for setting up modern libraries in Danish Schools as they were important in the education sector. He said Danish School project had been started from Bahawalpur division and in the first phase, the construction of these schools in Rahimyar Khan, Chishtian and Hasilpur would be completed by October.

Shahbaz said promotion of education was essential for the progress of the country and the Punjab government had taken revolutionary its uplift. He said the Danish Schools project would help polish the talent of the students of backward areas as well as elimination of poverty and ignorance. He said that after Bahawalpur division, the Danish Schools project would start in Dera Ghazi Khan, Attock, Mianwali and formalities had been completed for this purpose.

The chief minister said that in order to maintain a high standard of the schools, a core group, comprising professionals had been constituted for recruitment of teachers, their training and other facilities and its recommendations were in the final phase.

He said a fully autonomous board of governors, comprising locals, would be constituted to run the affairs of the schools which would ensure highly qualified faculty and a high standard of education in the institutions.

He issued direction for establishment of two committees for recruitment of teachers, their training, provision of necessary facilities and considering launching of double shifts in the schools. While reviewing the project of centres of excellence, the CM said Pakistan was a poor country with limited resources, therefore, the project should be advanced in a judicious manner. He said development of education was very important to him, therefore, the maximum funds were being spent for the sector.

Shahbaz further said that the government was implementing a comprehensive programme for provision of health, education, water, transport and other facilities to the masses as soon as possible and a transparent policy had also been adopted for generation of additional resources under which useless and redundant properties were being privatised in various districts. He said it had also been decided that the amount generated from privatisation of properties would be spent only on the welfare of people and poverty alleviation in the same area. He said foreign cooperation as well as philanthropistsí help would also be acquired for centres of the centre of excellence programme.

The CM directed the officials concerned that the Danish Schools System Authority should hold meetings after every three weeks till further orders and visit Rahimyar Khan, Hasilpur and Chishtian for reviewing the pace of progress of the projects. He said he would also preside over a meeting to review the implementation of Danish Schools project.

Members Provincial Assembly, Zaib Jafar, Maj (Retd) Abdul Rehman Rana, Rana Muhammad Afzal, senior member Board of Revenue, secretaries Education and Finance as well as prominent educationists were present.
