Pakistan Academy of Letters all set to establish International Sufi Council
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Academy of Letters (PAL) is all set to establish International Sufi Council (ISC) in collaboration with 37 countries of the world.

PAL Chairman Fakhar Zaman announced this in a media briefing at the academy premises on Friday.

Zaman said since a team of 87 international icons of wisdom was available to pursue the vision of ‘Sufism and Peace’, it was imperative to establish a ‘forum’ for these intellectuals on permanent basis.

He said the ISC secretariat would be established in Islamabad to help redefine the image of Pakistan as this land of the Sufis was committed to peace and universal brotherhood, instead of wrongly perceived as a land of miscreants.

PAL chief said PAL had started working on production of world-class documentaries in English language for global audience. “These documentaries will be subtitled with all UNO accepted six languages including English, French, Spanish, Russian, Chinese and Arabic in addition to Urdu. He said all members of ISC around the globe had committed to telecast and marketing these documentaries throughout the world.

Talking about the other projects of PAL, Zaman said due to lack of funds the completion of a comprehensive, spacious auditorium dedicated as ‘Faiz Ahmad Faiz Auditorium’, had been delayed. “The auditorium requires requisite funds from relevant quarters for its completion within next six months on priority. It is hoped that Faiz Ahmad Faiz Auditorium will be completed till February, 2011 with hosting an International Conference on Faiz Ahmed Faiz to whom auditorium is dedicated to,” he said.

Zaman said PAL had recently launched a unique publishing project to present selected literary works from all the languages of Pakistan including Urdu, Punjabi, Sariaki, Sindhi, Pashto, Hindko, Balochi, Barahwi, Gujrati, Bulti, Shina, Khawar and Broshiski.

“The literary works, both in prose and in verse in all above mentioned languages, are being published, which has never done before.

Zaman said PAL was also working on children literature. “Pakistani literature for children from all provinces will be translated and published in United Nations recognised six languages for global circulation,” he maintained.

Talking about other future plans, Zaman said PAL would hold an international conference on Faiz Ahmad Faiz in February 2011. Books on Sufi Axiology covering prominent Sufis of the subcontinent will be published in United Nations six languages. All Nobel Award winners literary books will be translated into Urdu since the very first Nobel Award in Literature in 1901, he said, adding, the publication of the peculiar literature relevant to those women who struggled and suffered in struggle to achieve “Women Empowerment” will be collected and published.Daily times
