Lahore College for Women University (LCWU) students protest outside Governor's House

LCWU students protest against university VC

Lahore, July 01, 2008: About 12 students of Lahore College for Women University (LCWU) protested outside the Governor's House on Monday against LCWU Vice Chancellor Dr Bushra Mateen who has told them to display their thesis work again on July 12.

The protesting students raised slogans against the VC. 12 out of 16 graphic design students have refused to display their thesis. They said that an exhibition of their thesis work was held at Alhamra from June 7 to June 9. A jury had adjudged their work. They said that the university had appointed the jury but after two weeks, VC Dr Mateen refused to accept the results. They said, "It is ironic that the VC has asked us to display our theses again before the third examiner." They added, "There is no logic in the re-evaluation of the theses as the earlier jury had also been appointed by the university."

The protesting students said that they would continue their protest and would not display their theses. They said that the VC had refused to listen to them and their parents. "We want that the VC should accept the results prepared by the earlier jury", they added.

The protestors alleged that students were being told to present their work for re-evaluation as the VC wanted to protect some students who did not qualify earlier and had subsequently failed.
