Introduction to B.E Textile Engineering

With the changing scenario of textile globally and the new challenges faced by the local textile sector, the need of educated and technically sound personnels is considerably increases. To realize the need of the hour, SFDAC has introduced textile engineering program aiming at human resource development and to provide professional education to cater the requirement of the textile sector.
B.E Textile Engineering (4Years / 8 Semesters)
In Affiliation with Hamdard University

SFDAC is offering four years Bachelor of Engineering in Textiles program in affiliation with Hamdard University. This is a four years full time study program designed to fulfill the textile industry requirements. This program is a self contained course and provides opportunities for students to develop an understanding of the engineering principles of various areas of importance to flourish and expand local textile industry particularly with reference to productivity, design, economy and quality aspects.

The subjects have been included keeping into consideration modern trends alongwith the subjects which are necessary to understand Textile Engineering and to keep the student update with the modern trends. Many subjects have been incorporated covering the Computer Applications, Communication Skills, Business Management, Marketing etc.
B. E Textile Engineering Graduation Requirements

The Textile Engineering program at SFDAC is a bachelor degree. Graduation essentially requires a minimum 2.00 CGPA in overall eight Semesters (Four Academic Years). Textile Engineering students must pass all the courses as mentioned in the prospectus of the B. E program.

The Curriculum :: 1. Course Structure 2. Project Design Thesis
« Reply #2 on: August 04, 2008, 12:57:53 PM »
The Curriculum

In response to the needs of industry, the Centre focuses its curriculum on textile engineering and integrates engineering applications throughout the course. The ability to cover diverse aspects of textile engineering in an academically rigorous and industrially relevant manner is a major attraction of the course are:

   1. Course Structure

The curriculum is structured so as to provide adequate groundwork of essential fundamentals on aspects related to Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry in the early stages of the course.

After establishing a secure foundation, the students are introduced to concurrent textile related studies at various levels within the structure of the course in order to integrate basic concepts with advanced aspects of textile engineering. This integration will culminate into specialization in diverse areas of textile engineering. The course structure is designed to enable students to appropriate the interdependence that exists among them thus providing a means by which multidisciplinary skills knowledge may be combined to design, process and manufacture textile production.

   2. Project Design Thesis

The project is the largest module on the course and can be considered as the heart of the course requiring the student to use the relevant resources gleaned from all the taught modules, which can be used to solve an industrial problem or advance a particular area of research.

Career Opportunities in Textile Engineering

Career Opportunities in Textile Engineering

The graduates from SFDAC would have career opportunities in various fields of textile particularly in Fibre production industry, Spinning, Weaving and knitting, Dyeing, Printing, Finishing, Buying Houses etc.

Pakistan’s textile industry is in need of qualified engineers. Every major industry is a consumer of textile and hence the career opportunities for these graduate engineers are surprisingly diverse. Job prospects in this field are much better than for industry as a whole because this sector is in initial stage of its development in the country.

For successful candidates it is easier to get employment than many other science and technology graduates. Textile firms continue to be the major employers though textiles are also the basis of the fibre, coating and adhesives industries.

Textile production and processing are the two sectors which employ the largest number of textile engineers, technologists and technicians. These secondary textile consumers have increasing need of flexible and well-trained specialist engineers and technicians. As textile material properties improves and manufacturing methods progresses, simultaneously new areas of applications will develop.

SFDAC is offering this B. E Textile Engineering Degree program to provide qualified and technically sound manpower to fulfill existing demand supply gap for textile specialized manpower.

Uptill now six batches of B. E Textile Engineering have graduated.

The graduate engineers are working in some of the following prominent textile industries of Pakistan:

   1. Afroze Textile Mills Ltd., Karachi.
   2. Al-Rauf Textile Mills, Karachi.
   3. Al-Karam Textile Mills Ltd., Karachi.
   4. Al-Rehmat Textile Mills Faisalabad.
   5. Ammar Textile Mills Lahore.
   6. Arzo Textile Mills Faisalabad.
   7. Al-Nasar Textile Mills, Raiwind.
   8. Artistic Denim Mills, Karachi.
   9. Clariant Pakistan Ltd., Karachi.
  10. Commodity Textiles, Karachi.
  11. Crescent Textile Mills Faisalabad.
  12. Cambriage Textile Mills, Karachi.
  13. Dawood Cotton Mills, Karachi.
  14. Ellahi Cloth Mills, Gujar Khan.
  15. Fazal Textile Mills, Karachi.
  16. Gul Ahmed Textile Mills, Karachi.
  17. Ibrahim Fibres, Faisalabad.
  18. J. B. Industries, Karachi.
  19. Kings Apparel Ltd. Karachi.
  20. Liberty Textile Mills Karachi.
