Sindh Governor lauds role of NED University of Engineering & Technology

Karachi:Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ebad Khan has lauded the role of NED University of Engineering & Technology as outstanding and historic for serving the subcontinent in pre-Partition days and then providing the best engineering education to the newly created country Pakistan.

The governor showered his praise on the university at the occasion of commemorating the restoration work of NED Department of Architecture and Planning at the old campus of the university on Friday. He had special words of appreciation for the Department of Architecture and Planning of the University for producing world class architects that were bringing laurel to their alma mater and the country by their outstanding work.

Asked by the media about the strategy of keeping at bay the advancing hordes of Taliban, he said that all security agencies were coordinating with each other against such an eventuality. Answering a question about the hardship faced by Secondary School Certificate (SSC) and Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) candidates during their examinations due to the unprecedented long hour power outages by the Karachi Electric Supply Company (KESC), he said that two per cent grace marks could be awarded to the students but it was under consideration.

NED University of Engineering & Technology Vice-Chancellor (VC) Engr Abul Kalam called it a memorable date in the history of his university as the restoration work was a marvel and NED academics and other staff had done it in a superb way.Sindh has rich treasures of architectural and cultural heritage, which reminds us about the glorious past that the region has inherited. A land that has always welcomed diversity and fostered cultural development through art, craft, poetry, music, Sufi traditions and architecture, Sindh can be rightfully considered as a microcosm of Pakistan, he said proudly.

Chairman of the Department Dr Noman Ahmed informed the audience that the colossal restoration work has cost a total of Rs31.995 million. The university generated Rs22.995 million from its own resources while Rs9 million came from the National Fund for Cultural Heritage, Ministry of Culture, Government of Pakistan.
