Late Ajmal Khattak Three books  launched
PESHAWAR: Speakers at a book-launching ceremony here Saturday paid glowing tributes to late Pashto poet and nationalist Ajmal Khattak for his valuable contribution to the Pashto language and literature.

The ceremony was held at Peshawar Press Club in connection with launching of three books of the famous poet including the “Call of Honour,” which is a translation of his nationalistic poetry book “Da Ghairat Chagha,” “Da Gham Karhay” and “Pakhtun Ajmal.”

Besides veteran politician Afzal Khan Lala who was the chief guest, the ceremony was attended by senior provincial minister Bashir Ahmad Bilour, Aimal Khattak son of late Ajmal Khattak, Pakhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party KP President Mukhtar Yousafzai and a large number of literary figures. The function was organised by Ajmal Khattak Adabi Jirga.

Afzal Khan Lala said Ajmal Khattak was a great politician, poet and journalist who worked for the betterment of Pakhtuns. He lamented that most of the time the political parties ignored their active workers, and this attitude caused huge loss not only to the party but to the nation. He said unfortunately Pakhtuns didn’t value their leaders in their life. Talking about regional politics, Afzal Khan said Pakistan, Afghanistan and India suffered due to terrorism and it was time they stopped interfering in internal affairs of each other and make efforts for lasting peace. He said millions of Afghans lost their lives due to the conflict between two superpowers that fought their battle on Pakhtun soil.

Bashir Bilour said the services rendered by Ajmal Khattak for the Pakhtun cause would be remembered for a long time. He said Ajmal Khattak was a committed political worker who suffered imprisonment and self-exile for years due to his strong convictions. “But he was also a literary man, having published a number of books of prose and poetry, mostly in Pashto and some in Urdu. The late Ajmal was not only a poet but was also a great journalist and politician,” he added.

Bashir Bilour said Ajmal Khattak highlighted the miseries of Pakhtuns through his poetry and was one of the staunch believers of Bacha Khan’s philosophy of non-violence.
