Youth are future of Pakistan
Governor Salmaan Taseer addressed the Youth Parliament

Lahore, Dec 24: Youth are the real asset and future of Pakistan and they should fight oppression and injustice, said Governor Salmaan Taseer on Tuesday.

He was addressing a meeting of the Youth Parliament held at the Ali Institute. He said a man of character always stands firm in difficult times. The governor said 160 million patriotic Pakistanis could defend the country against any aggression. "We should have complete confidence in ourselves because brave nations like ours cannot vanish," Taseer said.

The governor praised vision of Karachi and Hyderabad students regarding the problems in education, social and economic fields. He said politicians should also benefit from students' views. He said that the founder of Yugoslavia, Martial Titu, spoke to his nation once in a year and in the rest of the year he worked for the progress of his country. In Pakistan, it has become a practice that those who had no courage to listen to or say wise words have occupied the TV screens.

The governor said concrete steps should be taken to provide employment to the youth. He said that the country's first youth affairs ministry was made in the slain Pakistan People's Party chairwoman Benazir Bhutto's regime. He said the government had started the Benazir Income Support Programme and 3.4 million people would benefit from it. Separately, Azad Jammu and Kashmir President Raja Zulqarnain visited the governor at the Governor's House. Taseer said the government wanted a fair resolution of the Kashmir dispute through a dialogue. Zulqarnain said Pakistan had always respected the UN resolutions and India should also show responsibility. Daily Times
