Prize distribution ceremony at Iqbal Medical College
LAHORE - Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has stressed upon the young generation to get education of science and technology for putting the country on the path of progress.
Addressing the prize distribution ceremony held here at Allama Iqbal Medical College Auditorium on Friday to honour the heads of distinguished institutions and position holder students from all boards across the country, he stressed that he was aware about the importance of formal education but the present era demanded that the nation was well equipped with modern education.
Shahbaz gave away cash prize of Rs 1,00,000 to every position holder student, both male and female, from all education boards from the four provinces. He also gave away cash prizes to the heads of educational institutions that achieved good results. Senior Advisor to the CM Sardar Zulfiqar Khosa, Education Minister Mujtaba Shujaur Rehman and senior columnist, writer and poet Attaul Haq Qasmi were also present.
The CM said that the recent floods had forced the government to divert maximum resources towards relief and rehabilitation activities that also caused decrease in the cash prize for students from Rs 4,00,000 to Rs 1,00,000.
He said that the government would again increase the cash prize for students from the next year. He announced cash prize of Rs 6,00,000 for each position holder student in science group and Rs 4,00,000 for those in Humanities Group.
He said that reason behind extra money as prize was to encourage more students to get education in science. He said that the government would never compromise on education and he would even prefer to sell his coat and spend money for fulfilling the needs and desires of the students.Nation
