BIEK Pre-medical results out: Girls clinch all top positions
KARACHI: Girl students once again outshone their male counterparts in the Higher Secondary School Certificate (pre-medical) annual examinations-2010 not only by clinching all the top three positions but also maintaining superiority over them by registering a 13.94 higher pass percentage.

The results, declared by the Board of Intermediate Education Karachi (BIEK) on Tuesday, shows that girl students’ pass percentage stood at 54.78 as against male students’ 40.84.

The overall pass percentage of successful candidates stood at 52.10 as against 51.31 of the last year’s batch.

Girls also outclassed boys in the number of A-1 graders. A total of 954 candidates obtained the A-1 grade and the number of girls among them appeared to be 811 and of the boys just 143.

It was second consecutive year that the BIEK maintained its record of declaring the results of the HSC Science Group (pre-medical) annual examinations much ahead of the deadline set by the Sindh education department’s steering committee.

The results statistics further shows that of the total 14,812 candidates (2,845 boys and 11,967 girls) who appeared in the examination, 7,717 candidates (1,162 boys and 6,555 girls) have been declared successful.

In all, 2,124 candidates (304 boys and 1,820 girls) secured the A grade; 2,263 candidates (272 boys and 1,991 girls) obtained the B grade; 1,820 candidates (269 boys and 1,551 girls) got the C grade; 545 candidates (166 boys and 379 girls) secured the D grade and 11 candidates (eight boys and three girls) secured the E grade.

The BAMM PECHS Govt College for Women’s student bagged the first position whereas the second and third positions were clinched by students of the St. Lawrence Govt Girls Degree College and DA Degree College for Women, respectively.

Sundus Mehtab Shafee (Roll No.138656), daughter of Sheikh Mohammad Shafee, topped the examination by obtaining 985 (89.54 per cent) out of a total 1,100 marks.

Rabia Moiz (Roll No.137305), daughter of Moizuddin Siddiqui, bagged the second position by securing 976 (88.72pc) marks and Sundus Sabir (Roll No.141694), daughter of Mohammad Sabir, got the third position with 975 (88.63pc) marks.
