Lahore High Court asks BISE chief to decide matric papers rechecking case

LAHORE (APP): Lahore High Court has referred to chairman Board of Intermediate & Secondary Education (BISE) Lahore, a petition of a female secondary school student seeking rechecking of papers, with directions to look into the matter personally and act strictly according to the law. The student Umme Hani of Al-Dawa Model High School for Girls, Sheikhupura passed her matriculation (Science) with A+ marks (805 out of 850) in 2008 annual exam. Having first position in Middle Class at provincial level she was predicting first position in matriculation also. According to a media release issued here Wednesday, the petitioner alleged that the Controller examination with malafide intent deprived her of first position in the matric exams. She filed an application to the Controller and the CM Punjab Task Force which ordered the chairman BISE to redress her grievance. She deposited Rs 3600 as rechecking fee for six subjects. The petitioner said she was amazed when she found two objective questions in the answer sheet unmarked, and a clear difference in the total tally of her marks. The Controller Examination later asked her to file another application for further procedure, but no action was taken to restore her position by rectifying the wrong marking of her papers, claimed the petitioner. Appearing before the court the Controller Examination admitted that most of the allegations of the petitioner were correct but the Board was unable to undo such mistakes, being prohibited by the rules. Meanwhile, the legal advisor to BISE suggested the court to refer the case to Chairman Board for the decision, at which the court directed the Chairman BISE to consider the petition as an application and take a decision in the light of the judgments given by the superior courts. The chairman was further directed to inform the court about his decision through the Registrar Judicial.
