Sindh Edu dept seeks law dept's advice for control of edu boards

Karachi: The Sindh Education Department has sought advice from the Sindh Law Department to finalise a draft bill seeking control of the provincial education boards from the Sindh governor, it was learnt on Tuesday.

"The bill will be re-submitted to the Sindh Assembly Secretariat so that it can be included in the agenda of the house before the start of next assembly session," said education department officials.

Earlier, a bill was passed by the Sindh Assembly where the majority voted in favour of transferring control of six education boards to the Sindh Education Department. However, the Sindh governor sent the bill back to the provincial law department saying that there were loopholes in the bill.

The boards which the Sindh Education Department is seeking control of include Boards of Secondary and Intermediate Education in Karachi, Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education Hyderabad, Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education Mirpurkhas, Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education Larkana, and the Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education Sukkur.

The officials said that the department was working to re-draft the bill in coordination with the law department. "The objections on the bill will be removed and then sent again to the assembly for approval. As soon as the bill is approved the control of boards will be automatically transferred to the Sindh Education Department." Daily Times
